Keep the black W variant exact

The GHP631W is the black, Wi-Fi-equipped member of Grandstream's GHP63x color-screen hotel-phone group. The GHP630W is white; GHP631 is black but wired-only; GHP630 is white and wired-only. Do not transfer color, radio, local-adapter or package evidence between the four SKUs. Record the chassis label, regional package, hardware revision, firmware, room, extension, PBX and provisioning owner before commissioning.

The W suffix establishes integrated dual-band Wi-Fi 6 and a local power-adapter path. It does not remove the phone's 10/100 Ethernet port or PoE Class 2 capability, and it does not promise stock, compatibility or a particular regional certification.

Map every screen and key to an approved room route

The datasheet lists a 3.5-inch 480 × 320 color display, six context-sensitive soft keys and ten configurable digit-key speed dials. Translate each visible label and key into a controlled front-desk, service, room-to-room, restricted external or emergency workflow, including night and overflow behavior. A label, dial tone or key count does not prove the route.

The published two SIP accounts and two lines describe configured identities and appearances. They do not establish two simultaneous calls, PBX capacity or call-start rate. Preserve offer, answer, caller identity, media and teardown evidence for every required route.

Commission Wi-Fi, Ethernet and power as separate paths

For Wi-Fi, validate association, authentication, address, DNS, time, VLAN, SIP registration and bidirectional RTP separately under representative room and corridor conditions. Wi-Fi 6 support, a signal icon or a successful data request does not prove a usable call or recovery after an access-point change. For Ethernet, validate the room jack, switch policy, PoE class and management path.

The datasheet says W variants include a 12 VDC, 0.5 A adapter and can also use PoE. Record the selected path, cable and outlet ownership, switch or circuit capacity, and backup-power behavior. The USB-C connector is documented as an external-device charging output up to 500 mA, not as a data, host or headset interface.

Preserve the conference and network-quality conflicts

Grandstream's product page and version 5.2025 v2 family datasheet advertise three-way audio conferencing, but the current GHP6xx FAQ says the GHP63x exception does not support conference. Preserve that contradiction. Test the exact firmware and PBX workflow or exclude conference from the requirement until the manufacturer resolves it.

The product page also publishes a packet-loss tolerance claim for its jitter-resilience algorithm. Treat that as a manufacturer statement, not an independent or installed call-quality result. Validate each selected codec and the real network policy with captured session and listening evidence.

Treat management and security controls as capabilities

The family documentation lists GDMS, TR-069, HTTPS and encrypted file provisioning, TLS, SRTP, 802.1X, secure boot, a random default password, a unique device certificate and encrypted configuration. Choose one authoritative provisioning path, retain tenant ownership and administrator recovery, and verify download, application, reboot, registration and a completed call independently.

A TLS or SRTP option does not prove trusted certificates or protected media on an active leg. Likewise, the datasheet's emergency-calling label does not establish the correct number, room location, dispatch or callback. Use the provider's approved emergency procedure and keep location evidence current through room reassignment.

Pilot turnover, failure and support before standardizing

On the exact approved firmware, test startup, provisioning, Wi-Fi and Ethernet selection, inbound and outbound calls, service keys, hold, transfer, speaker, mute, permitted conference behavior, power loss, network loss, PBX loss, reset, tenant release and room turnover. Clear personal and call data between occupants and confirm the correct room identity after every swap.

Confirm current regional availability, package contents, power supply, support, price and PBX acceptance directly before purchase. No GHP631W, package, power supply, Wi-Fi path, Ethernet path, PoE path, USB load, key, display, PBX, GDMS tenant, provisioning path, protected session, emergency route, firmware, price, availability, compatibility, audio, conference or call was inspected or tested for this reference.

Use the four-SKU family matrix

The family is now documented as GHP630 white wired, GHP630W white Wi-Fi 6, GHP631 black wired and GHP631W black Wi-Fi 6. Color, radio, local-adapter and package evidence follows the exact label.
