Grandstream GHP631 black wired hotel IP phone

Assess the black, wired-only GHP631 by its PoE path, color display and room-service workflow without importing Wi-Fi or local-adapter evidence from W siblings.

Keep the black wired-only model exact

The GHP631 is the black non-W model. The white GHP630 shares its wired-only boundary, while GHP630W and GHP631W add Wi-Fi 6 and a local-adapter path. Do not order or commission from color or family name alone. Preserve the chassis label, regional package, hardware revision, firmware, room, extension, PBX and provisioning owner.

The absence of a W suffix means Wi-Fi and the W-variant adapter package are not established for this SKU. The phone's network and power acceptance therefore starts with its single 10/100 Ethernet link and PoE Class 2 requirement.

Commission the room jack and PoE together

Validate cable, room jack, patching, switch port, VLAN, DHCP, DNS, time, SIP registration and RTP as separate states. Include phone demand and the optional external-device charging load in the switch's port and total PoE budget, then observe restart and call behavior when that load changes.

The USB-C connector is documented as a charging output up to 500 mA; it is not evidence of headset, storage, network or management data. Record switch and upstream backup power instead of assuming the old analog line's failure behavior survived migration.

Map display and service keys to policy

The family datasheet lists a 3.5-inch color display, six context-sensitive soft keys and ten configurable digit-key speed dials. Translate each label into an approved front-desk, service, room-to-room, restricted external or emergency route and test its actual result.

Two SIP accounts and two lines are configured identities and appearances. They do not establish simultaneous-call capacity, a property integration or any dial-plan behavior.

Preserve the family conference conflict

Grandstream's product page and datasheet advertise three-way conference, while the current family FAQ says the GHP63x exception does not support call conference. Do not silently prefer the datasheet. Test the exact firmware and PBX workflow or exclude conference until the manufacturer resolves the documentation.

Likewise, codec and packet-loss-tolerance statements are capabilities and manufacturer claims, not installed audio evidence. Retain negotiated SDP, path measurements and listening acceptance for the actual room.

Accept provisioning, turnover and failure behavior

Choose one authoritative management path and verify configuration download, application, reboot, registration and call separately. Secure boot, encrypted configuration, TLS, SRTP and 802.1X require active-state evidence. Clear occupant data, confirm room identity and service keys, and recheck emergency location after every swap.

No GHP631, package, Ethernet path, PoE path, USB load, display, key, PBX, provisioning path, protected session, emergency route, firmware, price, availability, compatibility, audio, conference or call was inspected or tested for this reference.
