Choose the GDS3727 for its exact role
Grandstream positions the GDS3727 as the single-doorbell-key member of the GDS3720 series with dual-band Wi-Fi 6. The family combines a 4 MP sensor, up-to-1080p video, two microphones, a 3 W speaker, BLE 5.0, RFID, NFC, SIP, ONVIF Profile S, RTSP-related video functions and physical access I/O. Do not transfer the numeric keypad, four quick keys, metal housing, Wiegand interface or two-relay specification from a sibling model.
The GDS3727 datasheet lists a plastic enclosure, IP66 and IK07. Those are manufacturer specifications, not evidence that a chosen mounting, cable entry, cover, impact risk or maintenance plan has passed site acceptance.
Wi-Fi changes backhaul, not door wiring
The exact model lists 2.4 and 5 GHz 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax plus a 10/100 Ethernet port with 802.3af PoE. Wi-Fi can remove the Ethernet data path, but the unit still needs suitable power and the door still needs lock, sensor, exit and emergency-release engineering. Prefer a wired and PoE acceptance path when reliability, troubleshooting or power supervision requires it; validate RF coverage and roaming only for the deployed Wi-Fi design.
The datasheet lists one relay output, two alarm inputs, RS-485, grounding terminals and no Wiegand port for this model. Confirm the exact electrical ratings and use an appropriate access-control interface rather than driving hardware beyond the documented circuit.
Keep intercom, video and unlock paths visible
The published telephony feature set includes SIP paging, multicast paging, call waiting with priority override and account sharing, with G.711, G.722, G.726-32 and G.729 listed. Video is H.264 or Motion JPEG, while the product also advertises ONVIF Profile S. Capture the actual SIP/SDP and verify whether the PBX, receiving phone, recorder and mobile application use the same or separate video paths.
Grandstream lists SIP, HTTP API, SecureAccess, QR, RFID, Bluetooth and NFC among unlock methods. Disable unused methods, assign least privilege, test revocation and retain an auditable event record. A SIP call or visible camera image does not prove that remote unlock is authenticated safely.
Scope management and privacy
The family documentation lists local web management, GDS Manager, GDMS UC, GDMS SecureAccess and the SecureAccess app. Decide whether deployment is local, cloud-managed or hybrid; document tenant ownership, administrator recovery, mobile-device removal, update policy, video access and retention before enrollment.
The vendor lists TLS, SRTP, HTTPS, 802.1X and encrypted configuration controls. These are available mechanisms, not proof of certificate validation, secure defaults, patched firmware or protected recordings. Verify the configured transport and every exposed service on the installed version.
Commission the physical opening
The manufacturer lists operation from −30°C to 60°C, IP66 ingress protection, IK07 impact protection, 3–5 m PIR detection and up to 256 GB local storage. Treat each figure as a design input. Test the installed field of view, intelligibility, lighting, temperature, condensation, drainage, impact exposure, tamper event, relay action, door-state feedback, safe egress, outage behavior and authorized emergency release.
No hardware, RF, PoE, camera, audio, credential, relay, sensor, weather, impact, privacy, cloud, PBX, firmware, availability, price or life-safety behavior was tested for this guide.
Pair the door station with an explicit control owner
When a GDS door station is monitored from a GSC3570 control station, record whether the integration uses direct IP peering or SIP-server pairing, which device owns the relay and what event proves the door state. A visible stream or answered intercom call does not prove authorized unlock.
Do not transfer GDS3712 wiring and feature assumptions to the GDS3727
The GDS3712 reference documents a different enclosure, network and physical-interface generation. Compare exact relay, input, credential, power and management owners rather than treating the family name as compatibility evidence.
