Mitel 6940w: touch screen, SIP, PCLink and power boundaries

Evaluate the Mitel 6940w without merging its SIP line, PCLink, MobileLink, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, touch controls, accessory power or call-manager evidence.

Mitel · Mitel lists the 6940w in its current 6900-series product page and retains model documentation in the live SIP phone document center, including a 6.7.0 lane. That does not establish regional stock, installed software, future support, entitlement or call-manager approval.

Confirm 6940w rather than transferring features from the 6940

Mitel describes the 6940w as physically similar to the 6940 while adding embedded Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.2 and energy-efficient Ethernet. Capture the complete rear label, hardware state, regional order, ports and installed software before applying a specification or procedure.

The seven-inch touch display is shared, but the radio and power details are not interchangeable. A reseller title, screen photograph or 6900-family configuration is not exact-model evidence.

Separate touch assignments, identities and call capacity

The user guide lists twelve top touch softkeys supporting as many as 48 functions and six state-based bottom keys supporting as many as 30 functions. Those are layered assignments and contexts, not 78 physical controls, configured SIP identities, active calls or carrier channels.

Map the intended answer, hold, transfer, conference, voicemail, directory and monitored-state workflow on the selected call manager. Retain the visible page and state for each action; a label on the touch screen is not proof that the server feature completed.

Commission Ethernet, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth as different paths

The 6940w provides two Gigabit Ethernet ports and embedded Wi-Fi for network access. Bluetooth instead carries local accessory, mobile or PC audio and control. Choose the commissioned network path, then retain VLAN, address, DNS, time, provisioning, SIP registration and media evidence from that path.

For Wi-Fi, verify band, SSID, authentication, coverage and recovery. For Bluetooth, record the exact paired device, owner and cleanup policy. Association or pairing does not prove registration, an authorized call or usable audio.

Keep SIP, PCLink and MobileLink calls distinct

A SIP call uses the provisioned phone line and call manager. PCLink presents the phone as a Bluetooth audio device to a computer collaboration application. MobileLink exposes paired-mobile audio, contacts and history. These paths can share the handset or speaker without sharing identity, routing, mute state or call records.

Record which source owns the active session, which audio device the operating system and application selected, and which line control is visible. The guide notes that PC application mute and phone mute are independent and that the phone cannot toggle directly between an active IP call and PC audio.

Budget power for the final accessory assembly

Mitel documents IEEE 802.3af and 802.3at input but says the 6940w lacks the non-w model's automatic PoE class change. When an accessory is installed in the sidecar port, the guide requires a 48 V power brick. Treat the phone, M695 modules, USB load, Bluetooth handset, speakerphone, adapter, switch and UPS as separate bill-of-material items.

Do not convert a connector or a listed maximum of three modules into proof that every accessory combination starts and remains stable on the selected supply. Accept cold start, restart, restored key state and calls with the final assembly.

Pilot software, call-manager features and recovery

Use the current document center to find the matching software lane, then keep that reference separate from the image installed on the phone and the image approved by the call manager. Product-family Open SIP language is not a universal interoperability result.

On an authorized service, test provisioning, registration, inbound and outbound SIP calls, touch controls, headset and speaker paths, PCLink and MobileLink only when required, network interruption, power interruption and update recovery. Preserve assigned number and location through the provider-approved emergency process without an uncoordinated live emergency call. Use the 6940w PCLink and MobileLink diagnostic when pairing exists but control or audio is wrong.
