Mitel 6900 SIP phones

Choose a Mitel 6900 desk phone by exact model, installed firmware family, call manager, network, radio, power and accessory requirements.

Reviewed 2026-10-16Mitel's live 6900 SIP Phones document center, release 6.3.3 and 6.4 user and administrator guides, 6.4 SP4 document page and MiVoice 5000 learning center were reviewed October 7, 2026; the document center exposed a 6.7.0 documentation lane at review, but no phone, label, regional package, installed firmware, call manager, network, radio, accessory, power source, provisioning service, account, protected session, emergency workflow, availability, compatibility, price, audio result or call was inspected or testedIntermediateDocumentation based · not lab tested

Identify the exact model and software family first

Mitel's 6900 references cover several models and distinguish the 6920 from the 6920w. Record the complete product label, hardware state, regional package and installed software before transferring any family claim. The administrator guide also distinguishes MiNet and SIP software paths; a 6900-family label alone does not establish that a phone is ready for the intended SIP service.

Use the current document center to locate the matching guide, then keep its release separate from the build installed on the phone and the build approved by the call manager or service provider. A documentation lane is not an upgrade instruction or compatibility certificate.

Keep wired, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth roles separate

The 6920w guide says the w variant adds embedded Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.2 while remaining physically similar to the 6920. Do not transfer those radios to the non-w model, and do not treat Bluetooth as a network path. Record the commissioned Ethernet or WLAN path, permitted radios, authentication, VLAN, power and recovery behavior for each device.

Wi-Fi association does not prove SIP registration, roaming or usable two-way audio. Bluetooth support does not approve an arbitrary headset or mobile-device workflow. Test each required path and preserve its evidence separately.

Separate keys, functions, identities and live calls

Mitel documents six top programmable softkeys supporting multiple function assignments and four context-sensitive bottom softkeys whose roles vary by state. Those published function counts are not extra physical buttons, configured SIP identities, active calls or measured call-start capacity.

Design the visible workflow for the intended user and call manager. Preserve programmed keys, page changes and context behavior, then test hold, transfer, conferencing, monitored states and recovery on the exact phone and installed release.

Model power and accessories as a bill of materials

The 6920 and 6920w guides document two Gigabit Ethernet ports, PoE and accessory paths, with the 6920w moving from PoE class 3 to class 4 when supported programmable-key modules are attached. A sidecar arrangement can also require a separate 48 V supply. Treat the phone, switch budget, local adapter, expansion module, cable, headset and mounting parts as separate items.

A connector or published accessory family does not prove inclusion, regional availability or exact-version support. Validate the chosen combination, restart behavior and backup-power scope before rollout.

Tie every service feature to its call-manager evidence

Mitel's MiVoice 5000 learning material demonstrates 6920w workflows such as Wi-Fi setup, Bluetooth pairing, MobileLink, PC Link, transfers and conferencing in that named platform context. It does not establish the same menu, license, server behavior or mobile integration on every SIP deployment.

Document the call manager, provisioning owner, licenses and required server-side services. Test each required feature on the intended platform instead of converting a training topic or menu label into a universal capability.

Pilot provisioning, calls, recovery and emergency location

On an authorized service, test clean provisioning, restart, registration, inbound and outbound calls, caller identity, mute, hold, blind and attended transfer, voicemail indication, programmed keys, headset, speaker, network interruption, power interruption and update recovery. Keep phone, call-manager and provider evidence distinct.

Preserve the assigned number, physical location and provider-approved emergency validation process without an uncoordinated live emergency call. No Mitel phone, package, software image, call manager, switch, WLAN, radio, accessory, power source, provisioning service, account, protected session, emergency route, availability, compatibility, price, audio result or live call was inspected or tested for this hub.

Add the touch-first 6940w without merging its media paths

The Mitel 6940w reference keeps SIP, PCLink and MobileLink sessions, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, touch assignments and sidecar power as independent evidence.
