Freeze one failure and the intended path
Record timestamp and timezone, exact D810W order code, hardware revision, firmware, power source, intended SSID and VLAN, assigned address, provisioning method, SIP identity, registrar, transport, certificate policy and the phone and PBX messages from the same attempt. Redact Wi-Fi, SIP and provisioning credentials.
Classify the visible state precisely: no power, no Wi-Fi association, associated without an address, address without DNS, provisioning failure, SIP transport failure, authentication rejection, or registration accepted without a usable contact. “Connected” on the display does not identify the later failed gate.
Prove power, association, address and reachability in order
Wi-Fi is a network path, not a power source. Confirm stable local power for the wireless test, then retain SSID, access-point identity, authentication result, VLAN, DHCP lease, gateway, DNS servers and time. Wrong time can also break certificate validation.
Resolve and reach the provisioning and SIP names from the same network policy. Do not use a successful laptop test as phone evidence; client certificates, bands, captive portals, isolation, firewall rules and DNS views can differ.
Separate provisioning from SIP registration
A claimed SRAPS record or successful redirection lookup is not the same as downloading, accepting and applying the intended configuration. Compare the template and effective phone values for registrar, outbound proxy, transport, port, username, authorization identity, realm, certificate checks and registration interval.
Then correlate the phone request with the PBX or provider response. No request points to transport, DNS, routing or local configuration; 401 or 407 is normally a challenge until the authenticated retry; a repeated challenge or 403 needs identity, realm, secret and policy evidence.
Use wired Ethernet only as a controlled comparison
The D810W also exposes Gigabit Ethernet and PoE. With authorization, place the same phone, firmware and SIP profile on a known wired voice path and record what changes. If wired registration succeeds, compare address, DNS, time, route, firewall, certificate and provisioning reachability rather than concluding that the radio is defective.
If both paths fail at the same SIP response, return to shared configuration and account evidence. If Wi-Fi alone fails, repair the first different network gate, then restore the intended wireless path; do not leave a temporary wired test represented as acceptance of Wi-Fi service.
Repair the earliest divergence and repeat call evidence
Change one proven mismatch: power, SSID policy, credential or certificate, VLAN, DHCP, DNS, time, provisioning target, SIP transport, realm or account policy. Reboot only when the selected change requires it, and preserve the before-and-after phone and server evidence.
After a stable registered contact appears, place bounded inbound and outbound test calls and verify alerting, answer, DTMF, negotiated media and decoded two-way audio separately. Registration is not proof of call routing or media. No D810W, wireless network, PBX, account, packet, media stream or live call was tested for this diagnostic.
