Documented specifications
Snom · A live Snom product record and a June 2026 data sheet existed at review, and Snom's launch notice described reseller availability; regional approval and orderability, current stock, remaining support, firmware eligibility and warranty entitlement were not established.

Identify the base, handset and region together
The exact product is the Snom D892M, part 00004539, supplied in the reviewed material as a desk-phone base with a D8M cordless handset. It is not the D865, the separate D895M family or an M-series multi-cell system. Record the chassis, carton, handset and regional regulatory marks before selecting firmware or a deployment profile.
The v3 data sheet explicitly documents 1880–1900 MHz for Europe, the United Kingdom and Australia. A UPC and a link to Snom's Americas organization do not prove a United States or Canadian radio variant, approval or order path. Obtain the orderable regional SKU and approval evidence from the manufacturer or authorized channel before purchase or operation.
Keep keys, identities and conversations separate
Snom documents ten physical SmartLabel keys with four pages and up to 40 assignments. The same data sheet publishes 12 SIP identities or accounts and a maximum of 12 simultaneous calls. These are three different quantities: a key can invoke a feature or contact, an identity can register to a service, and a call consumes platform, trunk, codec and device resources.
Do not turn 40 assignments into lines or transfer the 12-call device maximum to a provider account. Confirm the PBX template, licences, registrations, shared-line behavior, busy-lamp fields and practical held-call workflow. Have the intended operator answer, hold, switch between calls, transfer and recover a failed transfer without assuming a paged label is as accessible as a dedicated control.
Treat the D8M as local mobility, not a DECT system
The cordless D8M extends the user's handset away from the fixed D892M base, while the base still depends on its IP network, power and calling service. It does not establish multi-cell roaming, a shared external DECT base or capacity for a fleet of independent handsets.
Snom publishes indoor range up to 50 metres. That is a manufacturer maximum, not a prediction for walls, lifts, machinery or radio contention in one building. Survey the authorized work area during a two-way call, including edge locations and recovery after leaving coverage. Keep DECT radio reach, Wi-Fi connectivity of the base, Bluetooth accessories, SIP registration and usable audio as separate results.
Bound the battery and charging claims
The D8M data sheet lists a non-removable 850 mAh lithium-ion battery, up to 12 hours of wideband talk time, up to 200 hours of standby and up to eight hours to charge. Those are published maxima, not measurements reproduced here. Age, signal conditions, audio use and shift pattern can change the result.
Snom calls the handset charging method contactless. The reviewed documents do not establish compatibility with the Qi ecosystem or an arbitrary wireless charger, so use only the approved cradle and power arrangement. Pilot a complete shift, low-battery warnings, replacement ownership, charging after use and recovery after the handset is switched off or out of range. A charged handset does not preserve service when the base, switch or upstream network loses power.
Validate power, ports, accessories and recording as one desk
The reviewed data sheet lists two Gigabit Ethernet ports, built-in Wi-Fi through 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, two USB-A ports, RJ9 handset and headset connections, EHS support, and up to three D8C expansion modules. It lists 802.3af PoE Class 3 or a separate 5 V, 3 A supply. These maximums do not prove that every expansion, USB, headset, radio and power combination is supported together.
Inventory the phone, handset, supply or switch port, expansion modules, headset and cables. Verify the full power budget, boot and restart behavior, key mapping, radio coexistence and recovery. The data sheet also lists local USB call recording; recording capability is not legal permission. Set authorization, notice, access, retention, export and deletion policy before enabling it.
Match firmware, protection and PBX behavior
Snom lists mechanisms including HTTPS provisioning, SIPS with TLS, SRTP and SRTCP, TLS 1.3, 802.1X EAP-TLS and OpenVPN. The service-hub page identifies the D892M but did not expose a current firmware number in the reviewed product-information source. Use the exact model's approved release path and the PBX or provider's supported profile; do not infer an installed security state from a capability list.
Record provisioned and effective configuration, installed firmware, certificate validation, administrator ownership, signaling transport and negotiated media independently. Pilot enrollment, registration, inbound and outbound calls, DTMF, caller identity, mute, hold, transfer, voicemail indication, handset range, approved headset, each required key, restart, update, power interruption and network recovery. No D892M, D8M, regional radio variant, battery, charger, accessory, switch port, firmware, provisioning service, certificate, PBX, provider, registration, protected session, recording, emergency route, price, availability, compatibility, audio path or live call was inspected or tested for this reference.
