Unlisted fields remain unverified. Platform compatibility and remaining support life require confirmation for the exact ordered model.
Identify the exact E500 before inheriting family features
HP's reviewed US page identifies the Edge E500 with product number 82M94AA and manufacturer product number 2200-87855-025. Record the carton, chassis label, hardware revision, regulatory suffix and regional part number before selecting firmware, accessories or a provider template. An E500-series statement can cover both E500 and E550, but that does not make their radios or orderable configurations identical.
The E500 technical table lists NFC, while an HP-hosted model table dated October 28, 2024 lists the E500 with neither Bluetooth nor Wi-Fi and the E550 with both. Treat this E500 as a wired-network model unless the exact regional ordering record says otherwise. NFC presence is not Bluetooth pairing or Wi-Fi connectivity.
Preserve HP's unresolved line-count contradiction
The same live HP page makes two different capacity statements. Its product narrative and feature section say 12 line keys support up to 48 lines, features and contacts; its technical VoIP table says the 12 keys support up to 34 SIP lines with pagination. These numbers are not reconciled in the reviewed first-party page.
Do not silently choose the larger figure or convert either into simultaneous-call capacity. Obtain the current exact-model administrator guide and provider template, then distinguish SIP identities, line registrations, key assignments, paged contacts, busy-lamp fields and concurrent calls. Size trunks, licences and network capacity independently.
Treat expansion as a powered accessory system
HP says the E500 can host up to two Poly Edge E expansion modules, with 22 line keys and three pages for up to 66 contacts per module. The November 2024 quick-start guide says the module is for an Edge E400 or E500 series host and receives power and signaling from that phone. That connector and maximum do not prove that two modules, a chosen PoE class, an optional PSU, a USB headset and a provider's key workflow all work together.
Inventory every host and module part number, cable, stand, power source and firmware level. Calculate switch power headroom for the complete chain and test boot, update, restart, key labels, presence or BLF, speed dial, answer, hold, transfer and failed-transfer recovery. A lit module is not proof that its mapped action is supported by the service.
Match the physical interface to the operator
The reviewed product page lists a five-inch color IPS display, a second display, 12 line keys, an RGB surround status light, two Gigabit Ethernet ports, USB-C, RJ-9 and EHS headset paths. It also lists text-to-speech, color adjustments, larger fonts, TTY compatibility and hearing-aid accommodations. These are capability statements, not evidence that one user can complete a busy reception workflow.
Have the intended operator find a monitored colleague, answer by headset, place on hold, perform attended and blind transfers, recover a failed transfer, handle two alerts and navigate paged keys. Confirm screen contrast, font, audio, handset coupling, headset control and reach in the real position without treating a physical key as a guaranteed platform feature.
Validate service support and security state
HP lists SIP, IPv4 and IPv6, DNS-SRV, provisioning and call-server redundancy, VLAN discovery, QoS marking, HTTPS provisioning, encrypted configuration, signed software, 802.1X, digest authentication, TLS and SRTP mechanisms. The product page also warns that many software-enabled features depend on the service-provider platform. A listed mechanism does not prove that the installed firmware, device configuration, switch, certificate chain, PBX or provider enables it.
Record the approved service template, provisioning owner, installed firmware, release channel, device certificate state, administrator controls, network policy, signaling transport and negotiated media on authorized tests. Keep TLS, SRTP, authentication, authorization and a completed call as separate evidence.
Pilot the complete desk and preserve recovery
Pilot cold boot, provisioning, registration, directory, inbound and outbound calling, caller identity, DTMF, mute, hold, transfer, voicemail indication, handset, speaker, approved headset, every required expansion key, restart, update, power interruption and network recovery. Confirm emergency identity and location through the provider's approved test process; do not place an uncoordinated live emergency call.
Retain the previous supported configuration, firmware path and factory-reset ownership before change. No Edge E500, regional SKU, phone, expansion module, switch port, power supply, headset, firmware, provisioning service, certificate, provider template, PBX, registration, protected session, emergency route, price, availability, compatibility, audio path or call was inspected or tested for this reference.
