Asterisk AMI ConfBridge lifecycle and talking events

Interpret ConfbridgeStart, Join, Leave, End and Talking as bounded runtime events without turning event presence or absence into media or caller-outcome proof.

Reviewed 2026-10-17Current Asterisk branch-23-generated and branch-22 ConfbridgeStart, ConfbridgeEnd, ConfbridgeJoin, ConfbridgeLeave and ConfbridgeTalking event references plus official ConfBridge configuration, AMI event and filtering documentation reviewed October 17, 2026; conference lifecycle, participant membership, talk-detection state, channel lifetime, media flow, intelligible speech, audible mixed audio and caller outcome remain separate evidence boundaries; talk_detection_events is a user-profile option that defaults to no, while documented DSP thresholds govern when enabled talking events begin and end; installed branch, loaded app_confbridge module, user profiles, manager class authorization, event filters, reconnect gaps, clocking and live state remain deployment specific; no PBX, module, manager account, credential, session, conference, profile, participant, channel, event stream, packet, audio, speech or live call was inspected or testedAdvancedDocumentation based · not lab tested

Name the event boundary before collecting

ConfbridgeStart and ConfbridgeEnd describe the lifecycle of one runtime conference. ConfbridgeJoin and ConfbridgeLeave describe one channel entering or leaving that conference. ConfbridgeTalking reports the talk-detection state for a participant when that feature is enabled for the user profile.

Record the responding node, installed branch, loaded app_confbridge module, manager identity, event authorization, filters, transport and collector-receipt time. A configured FreePBX destination, ConfBridge profile or dialplan extension is not a lifecycle event.

Correlate conference start and end by bridge identity

The current generated start and end events include Conference, BridgeUniqueid, bridge technology and the channel count at the event instant. Preserve BridgeUniqueid rather than joining separate lifetimes solely by a reusable conference number.

The official event overview describes start when the first user instantiates the conference and end when the last user leaves and the conference is torn down. Neither event proves that every intended caller joined, that the room remained continuously available or that media was usable.

Track participant membership with stable channel fields

ConfbridgeJoin and ConfbridgeLeave include the conference and bridge identity plus channel fields such as Channel, Uniqueid and Linkedid; join also reports the joining mute state, and both expose the admin role in current documentation. Preserve the raw fields and collector order.

A leave event means conference membership ended at that boundary. It is not itself a hangup record, disconnect cause, dialplan result or proof that the endpoint stopped all media. Correlate channel lifetime separately when those outcomes matter.

Treat talking as detector state, not speech proof

ConfbridgeTalking reports whether a participant begins or ends talking according to ConfBridge detection. The user-profile option talk_detection_events controls whether those AMI notifications are sent and defaults to no. Absence of talking events is therefore not silence evidence.

The documented dsp_talking_threshold and dsp_silence_threshold govern onset and stop timing and can produce noise triggers, delayed transitions or mid-sentence stop events when poorly matched to the environment. A talking event does not prove intelligible speech, packet delivery, mixing, audibility, transcription accuracy or speaker identity.

Preserve asynchronous delivery and visibility gaps

AMI is asynchronous. Manager class authorization and per-user event filters can limit which events a connection receives, while disconnects, reconnects, intermediary loss, parser faults and retention limits can create gaps. Preserve raw frames and distinguish server event generation from collector receipt.

Do not infer a total history from one connection. Reconcile a bounded interval with completed room and participant snapshots on the same node; a later snapshot is state evidence at another moment, not proof that every intervening event was delivered.

Bound privacy, retention and operational claims

Conference names, caller identities, account codes, channel IDs and speaking-state metadata can be sensitive. Use least-privilege read access, narrow filters, transport protection, redaction, retention limits and explicit operational purpose. Do not enable talk detection merely to make a dashboard animate.

No PBX, module, manager account, credential, session, conference, profile, participant, channel, event stream, packet, audio, speech or live call was inspected or tested. Validate one authorized disposable conference and known user profile before relying on lifecycle or talk-state analytics.

Correlate menu exits with lifecycle events and caller results

The ConfBridge profiles guide keeps a menu action, join or leave event and CONFBRIDGE_RESULT as related but distinct evidence.
