IP display-speaker screen is blank, stale or wrong

Trace one visual-notification failure through power mode, active content, slide-to-screen mapping, SIP or multicast trigger, priority, clock and data dependencies, API version and physical visibility.

Freeze one event and the expected visual result

Record timestamp and timezone, device model and hardware revision, installed firmware, negotiated PoE state, trigger type, SIP extension or multicast zone, event priority, expected screen and slide, previous content, audio and flasher result, duration and named observer position. Preserve an authorized screenshot or device photograph only if it does not expose sensitive content.

Classify the symptom precisely: panel dark, backlight on with no content, idle screen instead of event screen, wrong slide, stale overlay, unreadable text, correct local test but wrong triggered result, one side affected on a dual-sided device or content correct while audio is wrong. Do not factory-reset while these states remain mixed.

Prove boot, power and local display first

Confirm link, IP address, device status, negotiated power and any documented reduced-performance mode. Algo recommends PoE++ for optimal 8410 operation and permits PoE+ as the minimum; preserve the observed power detection rather than assuming the switch budget reached the endpoint.

Use an approved local slide or screen test from the device interface. If the panel cannot render a known local object, stay with power, display hardware, firmware or stored-content evidence. If it renders locally, keep the network trigger and event mapping as the next owners.

Follow slide, screen and event mapping

Algo separates reusable slides from screens and then maps screens to default, paging or alert events. Confirm the intended slide exists, its assets load, it belongs to the expected screen and that the trigger selects that screen. A newly edited slide can coexist with an old active screen, and a correctly built screen can remain unreferenced.

Compare one known-good event without copying its settings broadly. Record text behavior, font, color, background, position, duration and slideshow order. Keep content approval and technical delivery as separate checks.

Correlate SIP or multicast audio with the visual trigger

For a SIP page, ring or emergency alert, prove which extension received the event and which visual screen is assigned to that role. For multicast, match sender address, port and codec to the receiver zone, then check the zone's display mapping and priority-list order.

Working audio proves only part of the event path. It does not establish the visual assignment, and a visible idle clock does not prove a page or alert mapping. If neither audio nor display arrives, return to signaling or multicast delivery before editing slides.

Check priority, duration and stale overlays

Record the active higher-priority event, screen duration, slideshow timing, ring limit, emergency-alert cancellation state and any persistent overlay. A valid new trigger can be hidden by a higher-priority screen, while an indefinite or persistent API overlay can make underlying content appear stale.

Firmware 5.7 documents separate start and stop controls for screen text and allows a duration value. Correlate the authenticated request, installed firmware and visible result; an accepted request is not proof that the intended observer saw the text. Use the documented stop action only for the demonstrated overlay owner.

Separate time, downloaded data and image assets

For a wrong clock, preserve NTP servers, reachability, time zone and daylight-saving settings. For an image or data-backed slide, preserve the exact file name, format, checksum or package version, download result and storage state. A correct device time does not validate an image, and a successful image download does not validate event selection.

Do not replace the whole content bundle to correct one missing asset unless version and rollback ownership are clear. Retest the object locally before repeating the network trigger.

Retest visibility and restore supervised state

Correct only the demonstrated owner: power delivery, approved firmware, stored asset, slide, screen assignment, SIP role, multicast zone or priority, event duration, API overlay, NTP setting or physical sight line. Repeat the local object test and the original event, then verify audio, flash, visual content, cancellation and restoration to the intended idle screen.

Observe from representative distances, angles and lighting without turning a technical test into a live emergency message. Record the final identifiers and result, remove temporary content and logs, and retain periodic visual and audible checks. Device reachability remains narrower than readable content, intelligible audio or completed human response.

Check both mirrored 8420 panels after one content correction

On an Algo 8420, the two LCDs are documented to show identical content. After correcting the shared slide, screen, event mapping or overlay, observe both physical panels and approach directions; one working side does not prove the other panel or sight line.
