Bria softphone: managed settings, encryption and mobile push

Research Bria editions across desktop and mobile with central configuration and a separate push trust path.

Identify the plan, platform and build

Bria's current comparison separates Solo for a single user, Teams for multiple users and Enterprise. The desktop, iOS and Android guides also move on independent release tracks. Record the plan, entitlement, operating system, app build, SIP service and provisioned user before comparing features.

At review, the first-party desktop page listed Windows and Mac 6.8.8.1 dated September 28, 2026 above 6.8.8 dated August 31. The vendor describes 6.8.8.1 narrowly as a patch for erroneous suspicious-software detection by some virus scanners; it does not claim a new feature set or resolve every 6.8.8 known issue. The mobile pages remained on iOS and Android 6.23.5 dated August 20, 2026. These independent lanes are a documentation baseline, not proof of installed state, operating-system support, endpoint security acceptance or PBX interoperability.

Treat the passed September 2026 STUN date as an evidence boundary

The current desktop, iOS and Android release notes still say that stun.counterpath.com will be decommissioned in September 2026. October 6 is later than that stated month, but the public notes do not identify an exact shutdown timestamp or confirm that the service has stopped. Do not convert a future-tense release-note warning into observed service state.

Inventory each account's firewall or NAT traversal setting and determine whether it actually references that hostname. Resolve it from each required network only where authorized, inspect configured and effective client state, and use call-media evidence rather than a DNS response alone. Replace only a demonstrated dependency with the voice provider or PBX administrator's supported traversal design, then retest registration, inbound and outbound setup, hold or transfer, and two-way media. Do not substitute an arbitrary public STUN host.

Know where settings are changed

Bria’s portal can provision SIP accounts to clients when users sign in. Solo account settings are centrally managed and read-only in the app. A user editing the device cannot necessarily fix a server address or identity error; investigate the authoritative portal first.

Interpret encryption as a negotiation

The desktop user guide distinguishes TLS for signaling and SRTP for media. It describes required-encryption modes that fail if the server cannot accept the call. Verify the exact mode on the account and inspect both call legs; do not treat a TLS connection alone as end-to-end call confidentiality.

Assess mobile push and privacy

The Bria Push Service can handle inbound notifications when the app is backgrounded and can register on behalf of the mobile client. Current documentation says account configuration is stored on CounterPath's push notification server when the service is used, and describes different registration modes for SIP services that permit single or multiple registrations.

Preserve the selected mode, the push server's reachability to the SIP service, the Contact URI used for inbound routing and the direct foreground registration. Continuous, Standard, Single Device Takeover and Single Device Emulation do not have identical overlap or gap behavior. Confirm the organization's privacy requirements, PBX behavior and locked-screen experience before enabling or changing the mode.

Pilot the exact build and retain a recovery route

Test calls, transfers, headset changes, background ring, credential revocation and outage forwarding on the exact build. The 6.8.8.1 patch note addresses erroneous suspicious-software detection; it is not an endpoint-security allowlisting instruction. Preserve the download channel, file identity, publisher signature and organizational security review rather than disabling controls or assuming that every alert is false.

The underlying 6.8.8 release note records a known call-history display issue for a three-way-call recording when the user logs out during that call; it says the local recording remains in the configured folder. The same page gives January 8, 2027 as the TLS certificate expiry for the Bria Desktop API integration. Keep the patch purpose, recording-display issue and API certificate boundary separate, and assign an update owner before the certificate date where that integration is used. Get current support and licensing terms for the selected plan before relying on the product for a critical role. No Bria app, patch, account, PBX, push path, STUN dependency, API integration, recording, call or media result was inspected or tested for this guide.

Diagnose a Bria mobile call that rings only while open

Use the Bria mobile background-call diagnostic to separate Push Service enrollment, the selected registration mode, Push-server Contact routing, APNs or FCM delivery, the secure wake-up tunnel, provisional SIP response, alerting and later media.
